C. Legal requirements

The legal requirements result from the German Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG), in particular from Sections 3, 14 BFSG and Annex 3 to the BFSG, with reference to the Ordinance to the Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSGV). According to this, services for people with disabilities must be findable, accessible and usable in the generally customary manner, without particular difficulty and, in principle, without outside help.

This means

  • Information on the accessibility of the service must be provided and identification, authentication, security and payment functions must be barrier-free (Section 19 BFSGV)
  • In the case of a visual form of service, a form of service must be set up that enables use in the absence of or with impaired vision and does not require colour differentiation.
  • In the case of an auditory form of operation, a form of operation must be set up that enables use in the absence of or with impaired hearing.
  • In the case of a form of operation by vocal input, a form of operation must be set up that does not require vocal input.
  • In the case of a manual operating mode, an operating mode must be set up that does not require fine motor control or operation and the operating elements must be within reach of the user.
  • Operating modes that trigger photosensitive seizures should be avoided.
  • A form of operation must be set up that includes functions that facilitate and simplify use in the case of cognitive impairments.
  • The privacy of users when using the accessibility functions must be preserved.

D. Status of compliance with the requirements of the BFSG

Our online shop is designed in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.2 at Level AA to ensure that our website is accessible to all people.

The content of our website can be perceived using various forms of operation, so we ensure that our products and services can also be perceived and used by users with physical, sensory or cognitive impairments. The forms of operation we have implemented include

  • Keyboard operation: The website can always be operated using a keyboard. The implementation of jump labels ("Skip to content", "Skip to navigation", "Skip to footer") to further facilitate navigation for keyboard users is planned. Individual areas, such as the visibility of the focus and the control of flyouts and sliders, are currently being further optimised.
  • Screen reader compatibility: Important control elements and status messages are gradually being provided with suitable ARIA attributes (e.g. aria-label, aria-labelledby) to make interpretation easier for screen readers. Error messages, status messages and confirmations are output for screen readers. The labelling of language and headings will be further improved to ensure correct pronunciation and structure.
  • Alternative texts: Alternative texts are provided for all relevant images, icons and graphics. Decorative images are provided with empty alt attributes so as not to burden screen readers unnecessarily. Full implementation is being continuously driven forward.
  • Contrasts and legibility: The colour contrasts of texts and control elements are checked in accordance with the requirements (at least 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and graphic elements) and adjusted if necessary. The optimisation of contrasts is still partly in progress.
  • Forms: Form elements are provided with unique labels and autocomplete attributes. Error messages and correction instructions are displayed for screen readers. The operation of select and combo boxes will be further optimised. These measures will be implemented in full step by step.
  • Responsive design and scalability: The website is optimised for different screen sizes. Content and operating elements remain legible and operable even when enlarged (e.g. 200%). Individual graphic elements (e.g. logos, images with text) are further adapted to ensure accessibility.
  • Structure and navigation: The heading hierarchy is clearly defined (only one < h1 > per page, no omitted levels). Table headings are descriptive and support orientation. The structure is optimised on an ongoing basis.
  • Further measures: The website supports the use of assistive technologies and is regularly checked for accessibility and further developed to continuously improve accessibility. The full implementation of all measures is an ongoing process.

In addition, we ensure that our identification, authentication, security and payment functions are recognisable, operable, understandable and robust for all users. To this end, we have implemented the following measures:

  • Accessible forms: Relevant form elements, such as login and payment forms, will in future be provided with clear labels, autocomplete attributes and clear error messages. In future, instructions for correcting input errors will be designed in such a way that they are output by screen readers and optimally support users with assistive technologies.
  • Status and error messages: After successful login, input errors or after completion of a payment process, status messages and notes will be displayed in such a way that they can be recognised and read aloud by screen readers. The full implementation of these functionalities will take place gradually. - Keyboard operability: Security-relevant and payment-related functions can always be operated using the keyboard. The optimisation of navigation through the forms and the selection of options without a mouse is being continuously developed.
  • Contrasts and legibility: The control elements and texts in security-relevant areas are checked with regard to the necessary contrast requirements and adjusted if necessary to ensure safe use even with impaired vision.
  • Robust labelling: The technical implementation is based on current web standards (e.g. ARIA attributes) so that the functions can be used reliably with various browsers and assistive technologies. The complete implementation is ongoing.
  • Comprehensible language: The labelling, notes and instructions in security-relevant processes are formulated clearly and comprehensibly in order to avoid misunderstandings and promote the independence of all users. Optimising comprehensibility is a continuous process.
