Schwalbe butyl tubes are completely recyclable
Schwalbe butyl tubes are completely recyclable – rubber and valves are recycled separately. This is subject to free returns via our collection scheme at participating specialist retailers.
Since 2015, we have accepted bike tubes and use them in the material cycle. Devulcanization is carried out by our partner Hung-A in Indonesia, where the tubes are also processed again. The recovered butyl forms around 20 % of the butyl compound in new standard butyl tubes.
Energy use is around 80 % lower than conventional production of the same amount of new butyl – including all transport.
Schwalbe inner tube recycling has been recognized with the Green Concept Award 2020 and the German Sustainability Prize 2021.
HOW USED TUBES ARE SHIPPED
THE BOX:
Collect tubes in a box.
Any cardboard boxes can be used.
THE DIMENSIONS:
Both the girth dimensions of the package MUST NOT exceed 300 cm and the Volumetric Weight MUST NOT exceed 20 kg
(Girth = 1x length + 2x width + 2x height)
(Volumetric Weight = length (longest dimension cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) / 5000)
THE WEIGHT:
Minimum: 15kg (approx. 90 tubes).
Maximum: 18kg (approx. 110 tubes)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE COSTS:
Sending in old tubes is free of charge for you. However, if a cardboard box is sent in that exceeds the weight of 18 kg or the belt size of 300 cm, this may result in higher costs. In this case, we reserve the right to pass on the costs incurred to the sender.
THE CONTENT:
Please collect only used butyl bicycle inner tubes in the box!
All brands are allowed!
Attention! Please do not return tubes filled with sealant! The sealant leaks out and soaks the boxes during transport.
THE SHIPPING:
As soon as enough tubes are collected (min. 15kg, max. 18kg), close the box (paper tape is preferred for further recycling efforts), print the parcel label and place it clearly visible on the largest surface of the box.
