Schwalbe Publishes
2025/2026 CSR Magazine
Schwalbe Recycling System and Fair Rubber Project Continue to Grow Steadily
Schwalbe has published its 2025/2026 CSR magazine, in which the family-owned company shares the progress of its sustainability activities. Highlights include the development of the Schwalbe Recycling System, its membership in the Fair Rubber Association, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The magazine is divided into two parts: the story section offers insights into everyday company life, projects, and partnerships, while the facts & figures section that follows provides key metrics based on the internationally recognized GRI Standards.
Frank Bohle, CEO of Schwalbe, says: “At Schwalbe, responsibility is part of how we see ourselves as a company. That’s why we have been working on topics such as recycling, the circular economy, natural rubber, and emissions reduction for many years. We believe companies should take responsibility for the impact of their actions. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about getting better continuously and making use of the opportunities we have as a company.”
In recent months, Schwalbe has further expanded its recycling system. As of June 30, 2026, around 18.3 million bicycle inner tubes and 2.5 million bicycle tires have been recycled worldwide since the respective systems were introduced. The share of fairly traded natural rubber in the tire range now stands at 40.98 percent (as of June 30, 2026).
It is accounted for across the supply chain using a mass balance approach and is not physically allocated to individual tires. As a member of the Fair Rubber Association, Schwalbe pays an additional fair trade premium of €0.50 per kilogram of dry rubber for certified natural rubber. Depending on the region and plantation, this means around 50 to 100 percent more income for local producers than under typical market conditions. The premium goes directly to them.
Key figures at a glance (as of June 30, 2026):
- 88 percent of sales come from products containing recycled or renewable materials or Fair Rubber.
- 20 projects have been funded by the Children’s Advisory Board since 2024. Twice a year, children of Schwalbe employees independently decide how to allocate a budget of €10,000 to social projects.
- 62.38 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1–3) at Schwalbe Germany and its subsidiaries, and 31.5 percent lower emissions in production, each compared with the 2018 base year.
