RELIABLE BICYCLE TIRES FOR EVERYDAY USE

It is impossible to imagine everyday life without the bicycle as a means of transport! On the way to work, to the shops or to an event at the weekend. This makes it all the more important to be able to rely on your bicycle and tires at all times.

For almost all cyclists, "puncture protection" is by far the most important requirement for a bicycle tire. So it's good to know how you can best protect yourself from punctures.

HOW TO MAKE OUR TIRES SAFE?

Good puncture protection starts with the design of a tire and benefits from the materials used.

The type of puncture protection used depends on the respective area of use of the tire. There are rubber-based protective belts and special fabrics. Even our standard tires have an effective puncture protection belt made of natural rubber and reinforced with Kevlar® fibres. In addition, our top tires have particularly effective puncture protection systems that are specially adapted to the respective requirements, e.g. RaceGuard, V-Guard.

The SmartGuard and Smart DualGuard puncture protection inserts offer everyday cyclists the best possible puncture protection. They are approx. 5mm thick respectively and thus provide optimum protection against foreign objects such as tacks, glas shards or flints.

The requirements for a bicycle tire vary greatly from one area of use to another. A tire for everyday use, for example, differs considerably in terms of material and construction from a high-tech mountain bicycle tire. In our puncture protection guide, you can find out what the differences are quickly and easily:

HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF FROM PUNCTURES?

The best protection against punctures is a high-quality bicycle tire with good puncture protection. But every cyclist can also do something to improve puncture protection on their own bicycle. Here are our tips for everyday life:

THE RIGHT TIRE PRESSURE

Most underestimated - but with an amazing effect. The air pressure should always be adjusted to the cyclist and checked regularly.

TIRE CHECK

A quick glance is usually enough to detect and remove foreign bodies that have become lodged

GOOD ACCESSORIES

It's also about inner safety. Did you know that puncture protection can also be optimized with high-quality tubes and rim tapes?

WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

As a manufacturer, we take responsibility for our products - even beyond their life cycle. With the Schwalbe Recycling System, we take care of the return of tubes and tires in order to subsequently recycle them and avoid unnecessary waste. The aim is to incorporate the recovered material into the production of new goods and to further increase the proportion of recycled material. In this way, we want to take an important step towards a circular economy.

Bicycle tires are a particularly important component on every bicycle. For even more safety in handling and for even more riding fun, it is worth knowing more about them.

WHY IS AIR PRESSURE SO IMPORTANT FOR BICYCLE TIRES?

Only with sufficient air pressure is the tire able to support the bicycle correctly. On the road, where the surface is very smooth, the higher the air pressure, the lower the rolling resistance of the tire. The susceptibility to punctures is also lower at high pressure. A permanently low air pressure often leads to premature tire wear. Cracking of the sidewall is the typical result. Abrasion is then also unnecessarily high. Our overview gives you an indication of the "correct" air pressure for your bicycle tire.

WHY ARE TIRES OFTEN SMALLER THAN THE SIZE STATED ON THE DESCRIPTION?

The tire and rim must match. More precisely, the inner diameter of the tire must match the diameter of the rim shoulder. 37-622 tires, for example, fit on a 622 x 19C rim. In addition, the tire width and inner rim width must be matched. Our overview shows possible combinations of tire width and inner rim width according to ETRTO.

ABOUT TIRE DIMENSIONS

WHEN IS A TIRE WORN OUT?

A bicycle tire wears, for example, depending on the intensity of use, amount of use, load, surface, air pressure, rubber compound, etc.. It is therefore difficult to make a general statement about the mileage of a tire. However, if you pay attention to factors such as the correct air pressure, you can positively influence the mileage of a tire. How can you do this?
